Judicial service aspirants in Meghalaya will now have to sit for one compulsory paper in either Khasi or Garo.
The state cabinet today approved an amendment to the Meghalaya Judicial Service Rules 2006 and the Meghalaya Higher Judicial Service Rules 2015 based on a full court meeting of the High Court of Meghalaya to amend Schedule B of the respective rules.
Paper 4 shall be compulsory for which a maximum mark shall be fixed and, unless a candidate secures the minimum marks fixed, he/she shall stand disqualified and his/her performance in other papers will not be evaluated.
With regard to the Meghalaya Higher Judicial Service Rules 2015, similar provisions will be inserted in Schedule B.
“This is a welcome step considering the state is also pursuing the agenda to include Khasi and Garo languages in Schedule 8 of the Constitution,” Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said on social media.
Meanwhile, the CM also informed that the cabinet has approved a proposal to set up a Police Infrastructure Renovation Fund.
“For the past many years, critical police infrastructure that needs immediate minor repairs/renovation have not received funding at the critical time and therefore had severely affected the service delivery of the police,” Sangma said.
Through this, urgent repairs of existing police stations, outposts, fire stations, etc that need priority work can be taken up as may be decided by the district level committee. An amount of Rs 50 lakh will be placed at the disposal of each Deputy Commissioner at the beginning of each financial year under the fund.
