The Jaiñtia Students Union (JSU) today said that inflated electricity bill has badly affected the society especially those under below poverty line.
The JSU said that the increase of the Electricity Distribution Tariff since April 2021 without proper information has created hardships and confusion among the public.
Publicity Secretary of the JSU Dapmaiñ Suchiang said that the electricity bill has been increased from Rs 3.70 to Rs 4.00 for those using electricity under 100 units while Rs 4.20 has increased to Rs 4.40 for those using above 100 units and Rs 5.70 to Rs 6.00 for those using more than 200 unit which is an increased by 0.80 paise per unit from the previous rate.
He said that some households who use to pay Rs 583 for 125 units are now paying Rs 988 a month which is not comprehensible as to how the MeECL charges the electricity bill.
“We demand the government to decrease the electricity bill to ease the public in these trying times and realise pending electricity bills from big industries and government buildings that still owe the MeECL lakhs of rupees,” he demanded.
