The Jaiñtia Students Movement (JSM) has demanded setting up of coaching centres in the Jaiñtia Hills for civil service aspirants before online applications are closed.
Members of the student’s body today met the deputy commissioners of West and East Jaiñtia Hills district and submitted their demand with an ultimatum that the government should set up the centres by 5 pm of March 11 or face agitation.
The Meghalaya Public Service Commission has invited applications for the post of Meghalaya Civil Service with a 30 total vacancies.
The JSM said that a large numbers of aspirants from the Jaiñtia Hills will be competing for the examination and therefore there is an urgent need for coaching centres in Jowai and Khliehriat, since the number of candidates who qualify for the civil services is still less in comparison to its population.
They told the two DCs that the Meghalaya Public Service Commission is yet conduct the written examination of Meghalaya Police Service and the recruitment for Civil Service Prelims is also underway.
“In order to compete for the Meghalaya Civil Service, Meghalaya Police Service and Civil Service Prelims, the candidates require proper coaching and expert guidance,” it said.
The JSM said that out of the 30 posts, eight posts should go to the Jaiñtia aspirants. “This will be possible only if there is proper coaching and guidance,” it added.
Further, the body urged the seven Jaiñtia MLAs to take up the demand with the State government.
