The Jaiñtia National Council (JNC) has demanded the Jaiñtia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) to come clear on its move to let the forest check gates be operated by a private agency.
In a statement here, JNC president Sambormi Lyngdoh said that the pressure group had called up the forest Executive Member (EM) of the JHADC, Lasky Rymbai and was told that the idea to tender their check gate to a private agency on a trial basis was due to rampant corruption and leakages of revenue from these gates.
The JNC also opposed the EM and the CEM of the JHADC on the matter and suggested that if there’s a leakage of revenue, the first step it should have taken is to constitute an inquiry, replace the officers in charge, etc, of the gates.
The JNC also alleged that the idea to lease the forest check gates to private parties is to suit the self-interest of people in power.
The JNC has warned that they will unearth the truth and the kind of revenue generated from these gates.
