The Garo Hills Youth Solidarity (GHYS) organisation has written to the Public Health Engineering Department to complain about “missing” projects under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM).
The letter to the PHE Executive Engineer in Williamnagar, East Garo HIlls, claimed that an ‘elevated service reservoir’ at Bansam Awe amounting to Rs 29.41 lakh and ‘ground zonal reservoir’ at Rongakgre amounting to Rs 38.35 lakh were included in the relevant detailed project report (DPR) but have not been constructed in reality.
Moreover, the irregularities in the water distribution system are alarming, GHYS said. The water supply to Bansam Awe was supposed to be directly connected from the main clear water reservoir of the treatment plant but it appears that the contractor has connected it from the Megagre Songgitcham sub tank (ground zonal reservoir), which is meant for only one village. “This diversion of the water supply has consequences, as the water supply to Bansam Awe becomes insufficient after distributing it to two villages,” the letter said.
