Nongpoh, Aug 20: In order to reduce tensions between communities of Meghalaya and Assam, Jirang MLA Sosthenes Sohtun, Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner Abilash Baranwal, Superintendent of Police Vivekanand Singh Rathore, District Magistrate Eric Dkhar and other officials visited Maikhuli village to review the situation.
The visit came after a clash between the two communities when local residents dismantled electricity poles erected by the Assam State Electricity Board (ASEB).
Sohtun and the officials met with the locals and heard their grievances.
With regards to the incident, the Sohtun asked the Deputy Commissioner to submit a formal complaint to the government, highlighting the hardships faced by the villagers.
The MLA said he would personally pursue the matter and assured that he would lead a delegation of women from Maikhuli to meet Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma to have a clear discussion and find solutions to the problems faced by the villagers.
