The Janata Dal (United) has roped in several prominent new members from Garo Hills with an eye on the 2023 state elections.
Robinus T Sangma, a former principal of Chidekggre Higher Secondary School in Williamnagar, and several A’king Nokmas joined the party recently in Guwahati in the presence of JD(U) national general secretary Afaque A Khan.
“I will be contesting the upcoming 2023 state Assembly election from Williamnagar constituency,” Sangma was quoted as saying. “I open my heart and arms to welcome whoever wishes to join the JD (U) family to taste our ideologies of ‘Socialism, Secularism and Integral Humanism’.”
The JD (U) heads the government in Bihar and also has seven MLAs in Arunachal Pradesh, six in Manipur and one in Nagaland.
“I believe it will rise up in Meghalaya as soon as possible,” Sangma said, adding that the party is in the process of appointing office bearers for the state unit.
