Power Minister James Sangma has failed in his responsibilities and should hand over the running of the department to another minister, the Hynniewtrep Youths Council (HYC) has said.
The HYC’s education cell said that it is the government which should take responsibility if students fail to pass their examinations, as a result of the load shedding that is plaguing the State.
“The Power Minister, James Sangma, has failed to perform with the portfolio bestowed on him so he should hand over the portfolio to someone more capable. We also demand the Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma, to intervene in the matter with NEEPCO and to withdraw the load shedding immediately,” Enlang Sawian, HYC Education Secretary, said.
It was condemnable that the public, who pay their electricity bills, should have to live in darkness because of the outstanding debt the power utility owes to NEEPCO and other suppliers, the pressure group said.
Meanwhile, the Khasi Students Union (KSU) added its voice to condemning the structured power cuts.
Informing that when the KSU met Sangma on March 8, they had apprised the minister of the examinations that has begun, the KSU said, “This round of load shedding imposed is unthoughtful and insensitive towards the public and especially the students who are having their various examinations.”
