Cabinet minister and NPP candidate for the Lok Sabha election from Shillong seat, Ampareen Lyngdoh today said that she has not been convicted by any court in the Education Scam even as he cautioned political parties not to take advantage of it and make it look that she has been found guilty on the matter.
“I would like to place on record that the case is being heard in the court. I have never been convicted so let no political party take advantage of this, and make it look like I have already been convicted,” Lyngdoh told media persons here.
Refusing to make any further comments on the matter, Lyngdoh said that she was confident that “the truth will emerge as it is.”
She told her opponents not to use the case (against her) because at one point of time there will be repercussions of all of this.
Lyngdoh said that no man is guilty until proven otherwise.
“Use it. Throw that ball around. I am not afraid because I am doing great things and when I go to court I know what is being discussed and not the man on the street or the politician who will be trying to beat that with me. I am ready to take you on,” Lyngdoh said.
The pending criminal case against Lyngdoh involves offences under Sections 120-B, 420, 467, 468, 471, and 201 of the Indian Penal Code, as well as Section 13 (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
It may be mentioned that the CBI had charge-sheeted Lyngdoh and retired government officials, J D Sangma and Ameka Lyngdoh for manipulating score sheets of candidates in the infamous Education Scam of 2009.
The High Court in 2017 ordered the CBI to take over the investigation registered by Meghalaya police relating to alleged mass manipulation, tampering score sheets and interference in the selection of assistant teachers in lower primary schools in 2008-09.
