All political parties in Meghalaya have been directed to strictly refrain from involving children in election related activities and campaigns.
A notice was sent by the East Khasi Hills District Elections Officer to nine political parties and warned them of using children even in the KHADC and MP elections, scheduled next year.
Pointing out that complaints have been received that political parties involve children during the concluded assembly election in activities relating to campaigning, rallies, sloganeering and others, the DEO said, prohibitions were also issued by the Election Commission of India and the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights.
“All political parties are instructed to strictly refrain from employing and using children for the purpose of election campaigning failing which strict action will be taken as per the provisions of the law,” the notice said.
