Shillong, May 10: The police have initiated the process of investigation after receiving a complaint against the sitting Director General of Police, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong informed today.
Yesterday Gabriel Iangrai, the suspended police officer under suspicion of various crimes, accused his boss, Lajja Ram Bishnoi, of “criminal conspiracy” with regards to the use of a luxury car meant for his official use.
Iangrai, charged with involvement in an alleged vehicle scam, diversion of construction funds and supply of dry rations, said that Bishnoi had illegally changed the licence plate number of a government car, using it for his own luxury vehicle, which also broke rules limiting the cost of official police vehicles.
Tynsong informed today that the investigation process into the allegations accusing Bishnoi of criminal conspiracy, as well as criminal breach of trust, forgery and cheating, has begun.
Bishnoi is just days away from leaving the post of DGP that he has held for the last two years, with his last day scheduled for May 19.
“Now the case has been registered and investigation has started, so give it some time and let the investigation proceed and thereafter let the law take its own course,” Tynsong said.
He added that the government does not consider whether someone is about to retire or not, only that necessary protocols are followed when an FIR is filed.
