The District Legal Services Authority, South West Khasi Hills District in collaboration with the District Child Protection Unit, South West Khasi Hills District observed the International Day of the Girl Child today in the premises of Hope Orphanage Girls Home, Mawlangwir.
The celebration is part of the Pan-India Legal Awareness and Outreach Campaign.
Chief Judicial Magistrate cum Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, E Shabong was the chief guest at the celebration. Around 25 participants took part in the programme.
In her speech, Shabong informed that the District Legal Services has been constituted to implement Legal Services Programme in the district wherein free legal services were being provided to the weaker section of the community.
She laid great stress on the importance of education while impressing that under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act 2009 in which children between ages 6-14 are entitled to receive free and compulsory education.
The programme concluded with a game of musical chair which was conducted for the children. Participants actively participated during the interactive session. The programme ended with a vote of thanks.
