International Yoga Day was celebrated across Meghalaya by private and public organisations alike.
In Tura, the Border Security Force (BSF) began bright and early with its event at the sector headquarter.
The programme began at 7am and ended an hour later with the BSF units of 28, 55 and 100 Battalions along with the ad hoc Meghalaya battalion of the border forces taking part.
The programme was celebrated in a hybrid mode, i.e. using digital, virtual and electronic formats as well as in open space, taking due care of Covid-19 protocols. All the BSF personnel present at the headquarters and their family members participated in the event.
International Day of Yoga is meant to build enduring public interest in yoga.
In his message today, BSF Deputy Inspector General Soorya Kant Sharma, who also participated in the celebrations, encouraged all BSF personnel and their family members to practise yoga consistently.
Meanwhile, in Shillong, the National Cadet Corps (NCC) units of 2 MEGH BN NCC and 61 MEGH BN NCC observed the day virtually. The online meeting was attended by NCC cadets as well as students and teaching staff of Shillong College, as well as other invitees.
The event concluded with the presentation of videos and pictures of the cadets performing yoga in their homes, staying true to this year’s theme: “Be with Yoga, Be at Home”.
The North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda and Homoeopathy (NEIAH) also marked the occasion with a yoga demonstration among faculty and staff. There were also lectures delivered by NEIAH director PK Goswami and associate professor Vijay Kumar. Yesterday, a webinar was organised with lectures delivered by outside practitioners.
North-Eastern Hill University also celebrated the day with a large number of students participating in the event from their residences and hostels.
Officials including the Vice-Chancellor, Registrar and a large number of faculty members, non-teaching staff and their families also participated in the celebration with full vigour and enthusiasm.
