The international seminar cum workshop on “Economic and Social Impact of Medical Devices on the Healthcare Sector in the Country” took off yesterday at the North Eastern Hill University.
The event, which will conclude tomorrow, is being organised by the Design Innovation Centre (DIC) and Department of Biomedical Engineering, NEHU, Shillong in collaboration and sponsored by ICSSR NERC NEHU and DIC.
The sub-theme of the event focuses on “Growth of Medical Devices in India – Towards Atma Nirbhar Bharat.”
Experts from academia, industry, healthcare institutions, government agencies, medical experts, venture capitalists are attending the event to deliberate the vision and develop the medical technology sector in the North East and India.
NEHU vice chancellor, Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla who inaugurated the programme spoke on the importance of innovations, development of new technologies in collaboration with the other institutes in the region and the country. He emphasized on conducting such events on a regular basis so that stakeholders can be appropriately benefitted.
Others who spoke at the inaugural function were Program coordinator, Dr. Dinesh Bhatia, Professor Donkupar Syiem, Director, DIC, Prof. C. Daniala, Medical Superintendent of NEIGHRIMS, Shillong, Professor M. Manivannan, IIT, Madras, Professor Neeta Mahesekar, NEIAH and Dr.Punit Gautam, Joint Coordinator.
