East Jaiñtia Hills police arrested an inter-state drug trafficker and seized 77 grams of heroin worth Rs 69 lakh from him.
Superintendent of Police, Giri Prasad M said the accused identified as Ajamal Husen of Natanpur in Assam, was arrested during checking at Lumshnong near the toll plaza along the national highway. He was travelling in a vehicle bearing registration number AS-11-S-3488.
A team of the ANTF was conducting the checks after receiving information about the smuggler travelling from Silchar carrying illegal contraband.
Prasad said seven soap cases containing heroin was recovered. The Maruti Suzuki Baleno in which he was travelling, a mobile phone along with two SIM cards, EPIC, driving license, pan card and Aadhaar were also seized.
A case under the NDPS has been registered at Lumshnong police station and investigation is on.
