Women’s College organised the 17th edition of the FI Hussain Memorial Inter-College Debate Competition on Saturday.
The topic for the debate was ‘Collective Security: A Flawed Approach to International Peace’. The speaker for the event was East Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Jagdish Chelani. The panel of judges comprised Prof Susmita Sengupta from the Department of Political Science at NEHU, Suranjana Choudhury from the Department of English at NEHU and David Laitphlang president of the Shillong Press Club.
A number of teams from several colleges participated in the insightful and interesting debate, which saw arguments for and against the topic. The winners were the team from Women’s College, consisting of Nilaruna Roy and Dikshita Das. The Best Speaker award was awarded to Diya Sinha from Raid Laban College. Sinha and Panseng Sangma of Raid Laban College were the runners-up.
