The independent inquiry report into alleged irregularities in the functioning of the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Ltd (MeECL) has been submitted and is with the Political Department, Power Minister and Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong informed today.
“Once it is sent to the Power Department, I will be able to share the details,” Tynsong said.
The independent inquiry was set up by the State government after a string of almost daily allegations of fraud and corruption were leaked to the press by MeECL staff, with government sources making counter-allegations against union leaders and past governments.
The report was formally presented to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma at the end of March.
The inquiry considered the functioning of MeECL and its three subsidiaries in charge of power generation, transmission and distribution.
The committee prepared its report after examining records, visiting MeECL offices and holding interactions with staff.
