Ri Bhoi district magistrate has prohibited indiscriminate discharge of plastic waste, human waste, solid wastes and other garbage into the Umiam Lake.
The order under Section 144 CrPC states any individual, households, industries, institutions, private hotels/resorts, petrol pump, car washing etc are prohibited to discharge waste, which causes pollution of water bodies and causes health hazard to the public in general.
“This has been done in compliance to the Meghalaya High Court order. Anyone found indulging in such activities shall be prosecuted under the relevant sections of law,” the order said.
