State Congress working president Ampareen Lyngdoh has stated that as per evaluation of independent bodies and agencies regarding performances of the states in the country, Meghalaya is a bad performer.
“Contrary to what the MDA government has claimed and taking the public for a ride, evaluation of independent bodies and agencies like the NITI Aayog, PIA and CAG are all saying that our State is not doing well,” Lyngdoh told Highland Post.
She said that if the MDA government has credited developmental works for the victory of NPP and its coalition partner, then the ruling coalition should name the developments brought one by one and put them in the public domain.
“If you have made such tall claims contrary to the evaluation of all the agencies that evaluate the performances of the State and are saying that Meghalaya is in bottom three for safety, IMR, MMR, education, trade, and commerce, etc then show us and make the list of your achievement public,” she added.
“Leave the achievement chart in the public domain and let the public decide if the MDA have performed or not,” Lyngdoh said, adding that a small margin of 1800-1900 in the by-elections can be interpreted in many ways and it is nothing in politics.
She said that the only decent win was in the by-poll at Mawphlang which is indicative of the performances of a leader.
When asked of political parties calling the Congress a sinking ship, Lyngdoh said, “When a political leader leaves a sinking ship he saves himself and he will find a safe boat but what is more dangerous for the state of Meghalaya and its citizens is what if the entire community sinks.”
She said that it is up to the public to decide which boat they want to be in 2023 whether in a boat that will sink the entire State or a boat that will sink only individuals.
She also said that the people who no longer agree with the Congress ideology should be brave and leave the party.
“If people are no longer happy with the party then they should leave it because the damage they expect to do inside is more painful,” Lyngdoh said.
She however maintained that Congress is a party that allows grassroot leaders to grow and also is a party that likes to share authority and give new faces a chance unlike the MDA and its coalition whose only agenda has been to break the Congress.
When asked about the significance of the TMC party that will be making its way into Meghalaya politics, Lyngdoh said that it is too early to comment on such matters.
