The next two days are likely to see intermittent wet conditions over parts of east and north east India including Meghalaya.
As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the North East region is forecast to witness fairly widespread or widespread rainfall of light or moderate intensity for the next 48 hours (January 24-25).
Meghalaya, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and Nagaland are also likely to experience the brunt of isolated thunderstorms, lightning and hailstorm during the next 24 hours.
As per IMD, two troughs influence the region’s weather— one running from cyclonic circulation over Haryana to north Chhattisgarh and another north-south trough from Bihar to north Odisha.
IMD also stated that the wet conditions could linger for a few more days due to the trough stalling over east India.
In terms of overall rainfall amount, most of the states have been able to notch ‘large excess’ precipitation as compared to their long-term averages for the period between January 1 to 23 including Meghalaya (20 mm), Nagaland (17 mm), Manipur (17 mm).
