Congress legislator Ampareen Lyngdoh today said that the delay to implement Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Meghalaya as a mockery is being played by the Conrad Sangma government.
“We don’t know where this is going. All this while there was this appeal that all 60 MLAs should go to Delhi to discuss and press for ILP. But when Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in the State itself there was no opportunity given to anyone to discuss this matter but now we hear from Chief Minister Conrad Sangma that they were concentrating their discussion along the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act,” she said.
Lyngdoh said that after the ILP was given to Manipur, the Meghalaya Congress decided after much discussion to support the government resolution on ILP.
She, however, said that another deadline has been given by the State government for a meeting with Shah sometime in March to discuss the issue which according to her is an attempt to delay solution to the ILP issue.
“We are going to press this forward and if you are not able to bring ILP to Meghalaya you need to tell us why,” Lyngdoh said while disagreeing with the claim that ILP will affect tourism in Meghalaya.
“Other states having ILP are doing well in tourism. Congress will take up all these important issues in the coming Assembly session,” she said.
