Shillong, Mar 12: The District Magistrate of East Khasi Hills has imposed a prohibitory order under Section 163 of the BNSS after an illegal tollgate was set up on the Sohiong-Pariong Road.
Illegal tolls are being collected at the Hima Nongkhlaw check gate at Mawjongka village, the order, which was issued on Tuesday but shared with the press today, stated.
Check gates or tollgates on national highways, state highways and major district roads cannot operate without requisite permission from the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and/or the state government.
Such illegal structures also obstruct traffic flow and can cause inconvenience or, more seriously, accidents, the order added.
The DM banned “collection of tolls within the entire district of East Khasi Hills” with immediate effect until further orders.
