In reaction to a statement made by leader of the opposition Dr Mukul Sangma yesterday on illegal coal activities in the state, United Democratic Party (UDP) advisor Bindo Lanong has termed this a case of the pot calling the kettle black.
Speaking to Highland Post today, Lanong said that illegal mining and transportation of coal has increased by leaps and bounds at present but the leniency against such illegalities has been there since Dr Sangma was Chief Minister.
Yesterday Dr Sangma showed a recent video of coal mining and two related photos to the press and said rampant illegal coal mining and transportation is taking place with impunity.
The opposition politician also said that the government is in a constant denial mode because it supports illegal coal mining and transportation.
“I agree what Dr Mukul is doing at present but an inquiry on these illegalities should be right from 2013-2018 when he was the then Chief Minister of Meghalaya,” Lanong said today. “There has to be a special inquiry or a CBI inquiry and the offenders involved in these illegal activities right from 2013 should be given stern punishment.
