IIM Shillong observed the sixth death anniversary of the former President of India, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, who died while on a visit to the institute in 2015.
The event was conducted virtually by the Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Centre for Policy Research and Analysis with participation of faculty members, students and staff of IIM Shillong.
G Sateesh Reddy, Secretary DDR&D and Chairman DRDO, delivered a talk on “Building Future Defence Capabilities – Strategic Strides” as chief guest, where he recalled his association with Dr Kalam and the contribution and legacy left by him. Reddy praised the significant contribution made by Dr Kalam in the development of science and technology and also in enhancing the defence capabilities of the nation.
Under the leadership of the ‘Missile Man of India’, five missiles, namely Agni, Aakash, Naag, Prithvi and Trishul were developed. Reddy also laid emphasis on how Dr Kalam spearheaded the first and fastest supersonic cruise missile in the world, BrahMos, which is a joint venture with Russia.
The guest of honour, Moses K Chalai, Secretary of North Eastern Council, praised the efforts and initiatives taken by the Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Centre for Policy Research and Analysis at IIM Shillong.
