Shillong, Apr 4: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Shillong held its 17th convocation at its Umsawli campus, celebrating the graduation of 469 students this year.
Among the graduates, 395 students completed the Post Graduate Programme (PGP 2024-26), 54 from the Programme for Executives (PGPEX 2025-26), and 15 from the Post Graduate Programme for Working Executives (PGPWE) 2024–26. Additionally, five scholars were honoured with Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees.
The ceremony was attended by Bharat Diamond Bourse president Anoop Mehta and Vijay Kedia, Managing Director, Kedia Securities as guests.
In his address Mehta highlighted how rapid advancements in artificial intelligence and shifting industries are redefining careers, making adaptability and grounded thinking more important than ever.
Kedia urged graduates to remain curious and resilient in the face of challenges, using the metaphor of a diamond shaped by pressure. He stressed the significance of adaptability over traditional qualifications in the upcoming decade, as changes in artificial intelligence and global markets reshape career paths.
Kedia encouraged students to focus on applied knowledge and agility and said that success in the years ahead will depend not on how much one knows, but on how quickly one can adapt.
In his virtual address, Shishir Kumar Bajoria, Chairman of the Board of Governors, IIM Shillong, congratulated graduates, stating they are the “torchbearers of a Viksit Bharat,” and emphasized the importance of adaptability in a rapidly evolving world. He acknowledged India’s transformative initiatives such as Atmanirbhar Bharat and Digital India.

The convocation concluded with a formal pledge led by Professor Rohit Joshi, Dean (Academics), and respective programme xhairs. The pledge, taken by all graduating students and scholars, symbolized their commitment to ethical practice, excellence, and societal contribution as they embark on their professional journeys.
