In view of the continued lockdown due to the Covid pandemic, the celebration of the Independence Day this year in Tura would be observed in a small way but in a manner befitting the national celebration and ethos.
The Covid induced Independence Day celebration has been shifted to an alternate venue at Law College Playground, New Tura, as the usual venue- P.A. Sangma Stadium at Dakopgre, is being converted into a new multipurpose integrated stadium where the works with heavy machinery are going on at full swing.
Although the celebration will be truncated in terms of numbers of cultural items, parade contingents and numbers of public participation due to the existence of SOPs and Covid protocols, the district administration is drawing up some interesting activities like mass tree plantation programmes at some nearby villages including office premises two days ahead, cleaning drives in different localities of Tura and felicitation of some dedicated office staff and students of the district who excelled in the just announced MBOSE examination results of HSSLC and SSLC.
