The State government has decided to create iconic infrastructure at some of the key tourist destinations like Sohra, Shillong, Tura and accommodation units in villages like Kongthong to boost tourism.
Addressing the State Assembly today, Governor Satya Pal Malik said that the iconic infrastructure in the four key tourist destinations are being created under the Meghalaya Eco-Tourism Infrastructure Development Project, an externally aided project under New Development Bank for a cost of Rs 750 crore.
The Governor also informed the House that the government aims to construct 500 home-stays in the coming financial year under the Meghalaya Home-Stays Scheme in convergence with the Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme.
He also said that under SRWP 2021-22, an amount of Rs 50 lakh for each rural constituency and Rs 25 lakh for each semi rural constituency was released to the Deputy Commissioners to enable the MLAs to extend support to the affected people in their respective constituencies.
