Through the initiative of KIRAN, by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) to “empower agricultural knowledge and innovation in the North East, an agricultural start-up – D Sten Food Processing Unit – was inaugurated today at Umroi.
The eponymous Sten has been identified as one of the top 50 entrepreneurs in the state.
The food processing unit was inaugurated by the Head of the Department of Social Science at ICAR, N Uttam Singh in the presence of village officials and other dignitaries.
Addressing the gathering, Singh said that the major reason why start-ups fail is due to a lack of capital, inefficient management, lack of infrastructure and unsuccessful marketing strategies.
He added that the initiative was a step to encourage entrepreneurs to be self-reliant. The agricultural start-up is unique as it has used locally available resources to establish the unit. Though the initiative operates at a low scale, with correct measures and efforts from the state and line departments it will achieve great heights, Singh stated.
