Suspended MPS officer, Gabriel K Iangrai today said that he is fighting against “powerful people” in the system and will name them when the time is right.
“Keep your fingers crossed. There are many more things which will come and I will be sharing with you at the right time,” he told reporters.
Iangrai was first arrested in 2022 when he was the Assistant Inspector General of Police (Administration) after an investigation into a vehicle scam. He was also subsequently charged with diversion of construction funds and supply of dry rations.
Ten days before Lajja Ram Bishnoi was set for retirement as the Director General of Police this year, Iangrai lodged an FIR against him for alleged misuse and tampering of registration number plate of a luxury vehicle for official use.
Iangrai, who appeared before the Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC), said he will share his allegations of harassment with proof even as he declined to make public for now adding that he doesn’t believe in mudslinging.
Iangrai said that he has filed RTIs even as he added that all this will take some time. “Since I am alone and fighting against giants it is difficult,” he said.
He said the replies to his RTI applications were not forthcoming and that he had to go for appeals. According to him the government is using exemption section 8 of the RTI Act.
Section 8 of the Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005, provides for certain exemptions from disclosure of information.
Iangrai also alleged that he and his family members are still being harassed even as he stated that he was least bothered.
“I am not scared of anything because there is God,” he asserted.
The suspended cop had filed a complaint before the MHRC alleging human rights violation when he was being investigated by the police in 2023.
