Several villages in Shella are reeling under frequent power cuts and the Hynñiewtrep Youth Council (HYC) has raised the issue with the Assistant Executive Engineer MeECL, Sohra Division to complain about the difficulties faced by the people there.
The Shella unit of the organisation said that power cuts have returned again with the onset of summer and the MeECL has failed to provide uninterrupted power supply.
“With thunder and about two to three drops of rain water, power goes off immediately. With heavy rains for a week we know the villages will be reeling under total darkness,” unit general secretary, Seiborlang Diengdoh said.
He said what the people fail to understand is why electricity office could not find solution to free people from frequent power cuts when new electric poles were installed and a sub-station at Saikarap was opened.
