Shillong, Mar 12: The Hynñiewtrep Youths Council (HYC) met with the East Jaintia Hills Superintendent of Police to seek the establishment of a police outpost in the Bataw area in the interest of improving law and order and ensuring better security for the public there.
During the meeting, the pressure group submitted a memorandum highlighting that the areas of Bataw, Lakadong, Lama, Borkhat and neighbouring villages, including those located near the international border, currently fall under the jurisdiction of Lad Rymbai police outpost. However, due to the considerable distance and the vast area covered by the existing outpost, residents often face delays in receiving timely police assistance during emergencies.
The HYC also pointed out that many residents are unable to seek justice even for minor crimes, as travelling long distances to lodge complaints becomes difficult, resulting in several incidents remaining unreported. With the increasing population and expanding economic activities in the region, the establishment of a police outpost in the Bataw area would significantly strengthen policing, ensure quicker response to incidents and enhance safety and security for the people, the group added.
