The Hynñiewtrep Youths Council (HYC) held separate meetings with the deputy commissioners of South West Khasi Hills and West Khasi Hills to address the increasing drug-related and anti-social activities in the two districts.
The meetings focused on strategies to combat the drug problem and other social issues. Discussions included urging the DCs to take necessary action, particularly regarding the use of unused shops and houses as temporary shelters for criminal activities. The HYC also proposed the establishment of a rehabilitation centres to assist those struggling with addiction and requested coordination with the government for its implementation.
In addition, the HYC urged the SP of West Khasi Hills, Bikram D Marak to strengthen the Anti-Narcotic Task Force (ANTF) and increase patrolling teams in Nongstoiñ to improve public safety.
