The Hynñiewtrep Youths Council (HYC) has demanded that the state government implement its Sports Policy and Youth Policy, both of which have already been notified.
In a letter to Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh today, the pressure group said that while it “deeply appreciates” the commitment of the Meghalaya government in trying to promote sports and address the issues facing the welfare of the youth, it was “surprised” to learn that the Sports Policy, which was notified in June 2019, has not been implemented.
“The HYC firmly believes that the Meghalaya State Sports Policy 2019, which was adopted by the government of Meghalaya, will go a long way towards promotion of sports activities in the state,” the letter said. “We feel that this delay in implementation of this policy is an act of denying the sportspersons [a chance to] excel and is like an empty promise which needs to be addressed immediately.”
The Youth Policy, meanwhile, was notified in September 2021 but “till date this important policy for the welfare and development of the youth in the state has not been implemented as guaranteed and spelled out in this policy,” it added.
