The education cell of the Hynñiewtrep Youths’ Council (HYC) is worried that Meghalaya students are ill-prepared to negotiate their way through the requirements and procedures of the new Common University Entrance Test (CUET) and is calling for state schools and colleges to prepare their students for the changes.
CUET will provide a single-window opportunity to students seeking admission to the central universities (CUs) across the country. CUET is a bouquet of tests in various languages, domain-specific subjects and general test. Candidates can select any one or more of the tests offered under CUET, as per the requirements of the university/ies where admission is sought.
In a letter to Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui today, the HYC said that the CUET will impact students who are not well versed with the new process of admission as many students are awaiting their board examination results and are unaware of the changes introduced by the University Grants Commission.
The pressure group suggested that the Education Department direct all educational institutions in Meghalaya to prepare their students for the CUET and set up helpdesks to assist the students in the online application process as the last date is less than two weeks away (April 30).
