Shillong, Mar 7: Praising the Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of the Meghalaya Police for seizure of illegal drugs worth over Rs 51 crore, the Hynñiewtrep Youth Council (HYC) today said that the ongoing efforts against drug trafficking must evolve.
HYC President Roy Kupar Synrem highlighted the need to shift focus towards capturing leaders of drug syndicates rather than merely apprehending the carriers.
While the seizure sends a strong message about the law enforcement agencies’ determination to crack down on the drug trade, he added, that the real battle can only be won when the masterminds, financiers, and major players behind the drug syndicates are identified, exposed, and brought to justice.
The HYC president argued that the region’s network is highly organized, using vulnerable people as couriers while powerful elements stay hidden.
He called for a thorough and uncompromising investigation, stating that seizing drugs is a major victory, but the real success will come when the kingpins are finally brought before the law.
