The husband of a 17- year old minor girl, who married her some time ago, but were separated, was arrested in her murder after her body was recovered near a stream near the village of Hallidayganj in West Garo Hills district.
According to the FIR filed by the victim’s father, the girl, aged 17 was last seen with her husband, Musibur Rehman (23), a resident of Fekamari under Mankachar PS in South Salmara district in Assam, two days ago.
He later confessed to killing her and led the police to the spot where he disposed off the body. The body was recovered with the help of locals from the canal.
According to locals, the parents became worried after they were unable to contact their daughter over the past two days. This led them to suspect that something was wrong. A police complaint on the girl going missing and the husband being the prime suspect was registered at the PS leading to the husband being picked up for questioning.
Upon being questioned, the husband Musibur allegedly confessed to the crime and later let to the police to the spot where he had dumped the body of the 17 year old victim. Her body was recovered from the same spot with the help of locals.
“The OC of Hallidayganj led the investigation and it was his prompt action that led to the case being cracked. The accused has been arrested and investigation into what led to the crime is currently underway,” said superintendent of police, West Garo Hills, Dr MGR Kumar.
An FIR for murder has been registered against the accused at the Hallidayganj PS.
