The Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP), a junior member of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government, will raise the issues concerning SSA teachers and EMRI 108 ambulance workers with the Chief Minister.
While SSA teachers are protesting over pending salaries, EMRI workers are on strike as part of their demand that the state government take over the service.
“Our party, being part of the MDA government, cannot remain a mere spectator to the plight of our citizens,” HSPDP youth wing president Sandondor Ryntathiang told Highland Post today. “It pains us to see our teachers in the street. Our support to them does not only end in the street but, through the president of our party, KP Pangniang, we will meet the CM to apprise him about the various problems faced by the teachers.”
Meghalaya has, again, been ranked towards the bottom on one particular measure of education and Ryntathiang warned that if the teacher issue is not sorted out then the whole education system could be dragged down further.
On the ambulance workers, Ryntathiang said that the government has to address their grievances because they are essential workers who are on duty 24/7.
