The president of the Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) youth wing has warned political rivals not to underestimate the regional force at the next state elections in 2023.
Sandondor Ryntathiang predicted today that the HSPDP, which has just two MLAs at present, will return a greater number next year.
“Those parties who are underestimating the HSPDP are wrong because it might be them who may be reduced to a minority after the 2023 election and will have to merge themselves with the HSPDP,” Ryntathiang told Highland Post.
The party is older than the state of Meghalaya and has its own identity and has maintained its principles, he added.
“Many have approached our party and many are drawn to the HSPDP and we are very strong in the entire West Khasi Hills. Unity of the party in Nongstoin has been resurrected and, with this unity, the lost glory of the HSPDP will be restored,” Ryntathiang said, adding that the party will score several successes in East Khasi Hills as well.
The HSPDP youth wing has just 1,200 members at present but its president expressed a hope that the people, especially the youth, will repose their trust in the party in 2023.
Currently Meghalaya is seeing a string of politicians joining the National People’s Party. On this, Ryntathiang said, “The turncoats will get the result after the 2023 election if they defected with the consent of the people who voted for them or not.”
