Tura MDC Bernard Marak today questioned as to how an order could be passed by the Secretary to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) when the office has been under lock and key for several weeks now.
Staff were today directed by the Secretary, Rikse Marak, to get vaccinated against Covid-19.
Employees of the GHADC have been protesting the non-payment of 33 months’ worth of salaries and have put the GHADC under lock and key as part of their protest.
“Who is running the pseudo GHADC office? The GHADC office has been closed for more than a month now but an order signed by the Secretary surfaced today asking the head of the departments to vaccinate their staff,” said the Bharatiya Janata Party MDC.
“How was the order passed from a closed office? This has raised many questions with many feeling that a pseudo GHADC office is being run from somewhere. This means the fear of the people that somebody is controlling the GHADC office from somewhere is a reality,” he alleged.
The BJP leader felt there was something terribly wrong with the functioning of the council and the attempt to reinstate the Secretary amidst so much opposition.
“My fear is that some major misappropriation has taken place in the GHADC… I want the new executive committee to come clean on this before taking any step to reinstate the Secretary as it might lead to more controversy, which should be avoided at this stage. The priority should be to solve the employee issues,” he added.
