Houses built for poor families are complete and will be allotted soon to the 32 lucky beneficiaries in Umbuda village, Ri-Bhoi.
The subsidised houses were constructed under the Integrated Housing and Slum Development Programme, a central government scheme.
There are 44 housing units of which the 32 that are ready form the first phase of the project.
Speaking to this reporter, secretary of the Nongpoh Town Committee, Rayonald Kharkamni, said that the houses will be allotted only after the Urban Affairs Department approves the names of the 32 families.
“The Ri-Bhoi district administration and the Nongpoh Town Committee will screen the beneficiaries and the houses will be allotted as per the norms and criteria set down by the Urban Affairs Department,” said Kharkamni.
