Shillong, Sep 8: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), Ranikor Circle, has raised serious concerns over the issuance of Indian citizenship documents to one Rana Ahmed stating he is a Bangladeshi.
Ahmed is said to be an owner of Hotel City Palace in Lapang, where a major seizure of Yaba tablets was made by the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), East Khasi Hills, on September 3.
KSU Circle president Marconi Thongni alleged that Ahmed is a Bangladeshi national who illegally acquired Indian identity documents, including an Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC) reportedly issued by the office of the Deputy Commissioner, South West Khasi Hills District.
The union stated that Ahmed is married to a Garo lady in Ranikor area and has a history of drug-related arrests in Delhi and Kolkata.
The KSU called on authorities to clarify how such documents were issued and to take immediate steps to prevent foreign nationals from exploiting legal loopholes for criminal activities in the state.
