The Hynñiewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) has insisted that Meghalaya do something to halt the construction of infrastructure by the Assam government on land the pressure group says rightfully belongs to Meghalaya.
After an inspection today, the HNYF’s Ri-Bhoi unit said that Assam is constructing a building in Khanapara on land that belongs to the Narlein clan that is actually on Meghalaya territory. It also said that the neighbouring state has encroached on Meghalaya land in building its interstate bus terminus (ISBT) nearby.
HNYF leader Marcus Marten told reporters that Assam was able to get away with this kind of behaviour because the Meghalaya government does not care for its border areas.
