The proscribed HNLC has expressed shock over the killing of its former General Secretary, Cheristerfield Thangkhiew in a retaliatory firing early Friday morning.
The HNLC, alleged that five days before this, Thangkhiew, a surrendered HNLC by the name of Herman Pakyntein had threatened to kill him.
“What has happened today is because the SHNLC like Herman Pakyntein and Treng saw were involved along with the police in the killing of Che (Cheristerfield),” the HNLC said.
The outfit also alleged that as per their knowledge, Pakyntein along with one Kynsai War were involved in extorting money from non tribals and it was shared among them.
The HNLC also said that Cheristerfield is no more involved with the outfit but he was a negotiator between agencies like the IB and SB for the HNLC.
The HNLC also asked the pressure groups to find out whether the former general secretary of the HNLC was involved with them.
Thangkhiew died in a retaliatory firing by Meghalaya police in Shillong in the wee hours of Friday.
Meghalaya DGP confirmed to Highland Post that police were investigating into the Khliehriat IED blast.
Till filing of this report an official statement is awaited even as questions are being raised on the ‘retaliatory fight’ as to how Thangkhiew attacked police with a knife and what led to retaliation by the police?
Thangkhiew, who was the self-styled general secretary of the banned rebel outfit HNLC, had surrendered before Meghalaya Deputy CM Prestone Tynsong at Shillong in October, 2018.
Known as one of the most dreaded militant leaders of the state he was founding leader of the HNLC who was instrumental in setting up more than six training camps of the outfit in Sylhet and Maulavibazar districts of Bangladesh.
