The Hynñiewtrep Integrated Territorial Organisation (HITO) has urged the central government to order a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the many alleged scams in Meghalaya.
In this regard, HITO met with the state president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Ernest Mawrie, today.
Speaking to reporters, HITO president Donbok Dkhar informed that Mawrie gave his assurance to examine the matter and, if required, he will send a letter to the Prime Minister.
HITO has a number of ‘scams’ listed – to do with coal, teacher recruitment, public distribution system rice, Saubhagya, Inter State Bus Terminus, new Assembly building, district councils, smart meters, smart city and the latest one, regarding the alleged misuse of police vehicles. It wants all corrupt politicians and officials responsible arrested.
The pressure group also reminded the BJP state president of its recent memorandum submitted to the central government on different issues in the state, particularly on allegations of illegal coal mining and transportation. HITO has yet to receive a response to the earlier memo.
Dkhar also said that HITO opposes the legalisation of gambling in Meghalaya. The government was keen for the setting up of casinos along the border with Assam in Ri-Bhoi to lure in gamblers from the neighbouring state.
