The West Jaintia Hills unit of the Hynniewtrep Integrated Territorial Organisation (HITO) has written to the District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO) to inquire why the new Maternal and Child Hospital in Jowai has not been made functional four months after it was inaugurated.
The hospital was inaugurated by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma in December. Disillusioned stakeholders now believe that this was done with February’s state elections in mind.
In reply, the DMHO told the pressure group that the hospital will start serving the public in May once its sanctioned workforce is appointed.
