The Hynñiewtrep Integrated Territorial Organisation (HITO) claimed to have detected another 10 trucks near ICAR, Ri-Bhoi, yesterday that the pressure group claims were carrying coal illegally.
HITO today shared videos and the FIR, which it registered at Umiam Police station, with the media today. It also alleged in the FIR that some of the trucks are using fake registration plates.
On September 7, HITO members claimed to have detected 50 trucks carrying coal illegally. They managed to halt 18 but the rest fled the scene along the Mawryngkneng stretch of the highway.
HITO recently met the state president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Ernest Mawrie, and, through him, urged the central government to order a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the many alleged scams in Meghalaya.
