The national highway toll plaza at Pahammawlein in Ri-Bhoi district collected the highest amount of toll from vehicles among all toll plazas in the State.
Meghalaya has four toll plazas. These are located at Pahammawlein on National Highway-6 (Ri-Bhoi), Diengpasoh on Shillong By-Pass (East Khasi Hills), Lumshnong on National Highway-6 (East Jaintia Hills) and Pasyih on National Highway-6 (East Jaintia Hills).
According to data provided by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the Pahammawlein toll plaza has collected vehicle toll amounting to Rs 211.12 crore from 2019 till 2023.
In 2019-20, the Pahammawlein toll plaza collected Rs 40.84 crore. The collection came down Rs 26.05 crore in 2020-21 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, the collection jumped to Rs 42.97 crore in 2021-22. It grew to Rs 46.17 crore in 2022-23 and Rs 55.09 crore in 2023-24.
The Diengpasoh toll plaza ranks second in terms of toll collection with Rs 95.99 crore in the last five years.
In 2019-20, the collection at Diengpasoh toll plaza was Rs 17.81 crore which dropped to Rs 16.28 in 2020-21. The collection rose to Rs 18.69 in 2021-22, Rs 20.56 in 2022-23 and Rs 22.65 in 2023-24.
The collection at the Lumshnong toll plaza in the last five years was Rs 59.9 crore.
In 2019-20 the collection was Rs 9.56 crore. It grew in 2020-21 with Rs 13.65 crore and also in 2021-22 with Rs 14.09 crore and in 2022-23 with Rs 16.08 crore. However, in 2023-24, the collection slumped to Rs 6.52 crore.
The Pasyih toll plaza was the lowest in terms of toll collection from vehicles at only Rs 48.66 crore during the period from 2019 to 2023.
According to the data, in 2019-20 the collection at Pasyieh toll plaza was Rs 6.65 crore which grew slightly in 2020-21 with Rs 6.93 crore. In 2021-22 the collection rose to Rs 12.72 crore. It declined to Rs 10.80 crore in 2022-23 but grew to Rs 11.56 crore in 2023-24.
All national highways fee plazas are being operated as per the applicable National Highways Fee Rules or Concession Agreement.
