Shillong, Apr 9: The Meghalaya High Court today expressed its displeasure at the way Anand Singh Chauhan, the Project Director at the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), replied to a show-cause notice issued by the court under the Contempt of Courts Act.
Hearing a public interest litigation (PIL), a division bench of the High Court consisting of Chief Justice Revati Mohite Dere and Justice Wanlura Diengdoh stated that, after it examined the reply, it do not find that the affidavit was happily drafted, as the affidavit is more in the nature of justification, clarification and explanations offered by Chauhan.
The case refers to delays in the repair and restoration of the Jowai-Ratacherra Road (National Highway 6).
The counsel for the respondent sought permission to withdraw the affidavit and file a new one, which the High Court accepted given that the lawyer tendered an unconditional apology on behalf of Chauhan.
