Shillong, Aug 31: The Meghalaya High Court has directed that its interim order to accept alternative identification documents for individuals who are unable to produce an Aadhaar number or card to continue.
“Our interim order dated July 21, 2025 permitting the said other documents to be considered by the authority till an Aadhaar card is issued will continue and be operative in favour of all applicants for Aadhaar card who have submitted their application and such applications are pending,” the division bench comprising Chief Justice IP Mukerji and Justice W Diengdoh said recently when the PIL, filed by social activist Greneth M Sangma, was heard again.
Meanwhile, the Unique Identification Authority of India has already filed its affidavit in opposition even before a direction was made by the court.
The PIL will have its next hearing on September 17.
