Wearing helmet will be made mandatory for pillion riders on two wheelers from November 30.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Sylvester Nongtnger informed that the Shillong Traffic Police will conduct an awareness drive on wearing of helmets for both riders and pillion riders till November 30.
“Any violation detected after the date will be booked under Section 194 D of Motor Vehicle (Amendment) Act, 2019,” Nongtnger said in a statement.
He said this I being done due to the rise in the number of pillion rider fatality/grievous injuries in motor vehicle accidents in the district and it is one of the measures for road safety.
“The Shillong Traffic Police would like to request both two-wheeler riders and pillion riders to kindly wear Helmets while riding for their own safety,” he urged.
